How Sciatica Disrupts Life in Trenton

Outdoor plans slip away: Walking through Rotary Park or exploring Detroit River Wildlife Refuge becomes impossible when every step sends excruciating pain shooting from your lower back down to your toes, making you freeze mid-stride.

Work becomes survival: Downtown Trenton desks and long commutes down West Road become torture when sitting feels like a hot knife twisting in your lower back, forcing you to constantly shift and stand.

Active life on hold: Tennis at Trenton Athletic Club or a round at Woodhaven Golf Club becomes impossible when your leg goes numb without warning or buckles from the stabbing nerve pain.

Downriver residents don't have to live this way.

What if your spine isn't the problem?

Most people focus on the back. But for many clients, the tension starts in the front - in a deep muscle most treatments never reach.

Sciatica Relief at TheraMax

Sciatica happens when tight muscles squeeze your sciatic nerve. Most treatments focus on the back - piriformis, glutes, lower back. But many clients tell us their symptoms improved most when we also addressed the psoas, a deep muscle in the front that can pull the spine out of alignment. Our robotic therapy is designed to reach both sides, applying sustained pressure human hands can't replicate. Many clients say this helps ease the deep tension that keeps them from moving comfortably, all without surgery or injections.

Clients often report they can:

Walk without shooting pain down their leg

Sit through meetings without constantly shifting positions

Sleep through the night on their preferred side

No prescriptions, no injections, no surgery required

No Rx

No Injections

No Surgery

What Makes Our Approach Different

Swipe to compare treatment options

Chiropractor

Approach: Spinal adjustments focusing on vertebral alignment to relieve nerve pressure

Timeframe: Multiple visits over weeks/months

Effectiveness: May provide temporary relief but doesn't address the tight muscles compressing your nerve

Adjustments don't release the piriformis or deep glute muscles squeezing your sciatic nerve. Many clients get adjusted weekly with no lasting relief.

Physical Therapy

Approach: Stretching exercises and core strengthening to reduce nerve irritation

Timeframe: 8-12 weeks of sessions

Effectiveness: Can help mild cases but lacks the deep pressure needed to release severely tight muscles

Stretching feels good temporarily, but doesn't provide the deep muscular release many clients need for lasting relief.

Injections & Surgery

Approach: Epidural steroid injections or surgical nerve decompression

Timeframe: Recovery time varies by procedure

Effectiveness: Injections mask pain for weeks to months; surgery has variable success rates

Involves needles, cutting tissue, months of recovery, risk of nerve damage, and no guarantee the pain won't return. Doesn't address the muscular underlying tension.

Understanding Sciatica

Deep muscle tension may be part of the problem

The sciatic nerve runs through your pelvis, passing near several muscles that can compress it when tight. Most treatments focus on the piriformis and glutes in the back. But the psoas, a deep muscle connecting your spine to your legs through the front, can also pull your pelvis out of alignment. When both sides are tight, the nerve can get squeezed from multiple directions. That's why back-only approaches sometimes don't help.

I went to TheraMax in Miami for sciatica. I work at a bank and sit all day, my pain was like 8/10 and it was bad. After the two sessions I felt a big releif, specially when they worked on my psoas muscle, I didnt even know that muscle was connected to sciatica.

Therapy at Theramax has stopped my sciatica crisis. After my second session I never felt the pain again. The therapists that I met, Cassandra and Natalia were extremely experienced and attentive and took so much time to educate me on sciatica and ways that I could modify my behaviors to complement the therapy and get better. Kevin and Waleska are wonderful and worked with me to accommodate my needs. This will be my go to if and when I have a flare up. Don’t hesitate and trust them. Jacqueline Alvarez

For years I’ve had a constant and stubborn tightness on my hips and lower back. After many trips to the physiotherapist and countless exercises I was introduced to Theramax. During first session not only did I feel an immediate release on my hip flexors but at the end the pain in my lower back and sciatica appeared to have decreased tremendously. The specialist also gave me a list of at home exercises that I’ve been diligently incorporating in my workouts. Looking forward to my next session! Thank you to the team at Theramax, you are onto something!

What Our Trenton Clients Say About Their Results

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to your questions about TheraMax

Why do clients choose you after PT or chiropractic didn't work?

Most sciatica clients who walk through our doors have already tried PT stretches or chiropractic adjustments with limited results. They usually tell us those approaches didn't reach the deep tension that makes their symptoms flare up, or even address the psoas muscle. Our robotic therapy applies sustained pressure into those layers that hands and stretches can't access.

What does a TheraMax session feel like?

Clients are usually surprised how comfortable it is. You'll feel pressure and gentle vibration targeting various muscle groups, particularly the psoas. You and the therapist control the intensity the whole time. Most people find it relaxing; some even fall asleep. If you've been dealing with that shooting sciatic pain, the session is nothing compared to what you're already living with.

How do I know if you can help with my sciatica?

That's exactly what your first visit is for. We'll chat about your sciatica symptoms, how long you've had them, what you've tried, and give you an honest answer about whether we think we can help. If robotic therapy isn't the right fit, we'll tell you straight up and point you toward someone who might be better suited. If you have severe symptoms (foot drop, bowel/bladder issues, inability to walk, etc), we recommend seeing another specialist.

Do you accept insurance?

We're cash-pay, which means no insurance headaches, no surprise bills, and no dragging your care through months of copays. You'll know exactly what you're paying upfront. Most clients find this saves them time and money compared to the traditional route of endless appointments with minimal progress.

How quickly can I get in?

We know sciatica doesn't wait, and neither should you. We offer same-week appointments, and 60% of new clients are seen within 3 days. Early morning, evening, and weekend slots available to fit your busy Trenton schedule. Call (734) 307-2213 to check availability.

My doctor says sciatica, but what's actually causing the nerve pain?

Sciatica describes the symptom, not the cause. The sciatic nerve can be irritated by a herniated disc pressing on it, by piriformis syndrome where the muscle compresses the nerve, or by general lower back tension that refers down the leg. Understanding which pattern you're experiencing helps us focus on what's actually tight.
